About the team

The role is in the Strategic Applications Team within the Development Management service. It provides a perfect opportunity for successful candidates to thrive and progress in their planning career, developing important skills on exciting and challenging strategic planning applications.

Lambeth has been a pioneer in the Digital Planning revolution - collaboratively leading the Reducing Invalid Planning Applications Digital Project from 2019. This project will create a more efficient, user-friendly process that will help both the Council and residents through the planning process.

About the Role

We have a Senior Planning Officer opportunity within the Strategic Applications Team in our Development Management service on a 12 month fixed term full-time basis. We are looking for an effective communicator who will engage with all key stakeholders and will build good relationships with Members of the Planning Applications Committee. The successful candidate will bring their significant experience and knowledge of Development Management, ideally from a busy metropolitan area with experience of dealing with major applications.

Through a positive and solution-focussed approach you will take the lead in negotiating the best possible development outcomes for major and strategic developments, reflected in high quality reports and documents. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to present applications to the Planning Applications Committee giving you the chance to grow and expand your breadth of experience.

As of October 2023, the market supplement payment for grades PO1 - PO7 is 8.5%. Lambeth also offers paid for RTPI subscriptions. Office working would be at our modern offices in the heart of the Brixton Town Centre, less than 5 minutes' walk from the Underground and Overground train stations.

To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant planning legislation, policies and procedures.
  • An RTPI-recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent
  • Extensive experience of development management work with responsibility for dealing with a planning application caseload that includes major and/or complex applications.
  • Experience of providing advice to Councillors, senior officers, developers and the public on all aspects of planning applications and related matters.
  • Focuses on people
  • Works Collaboratively
