Bookkeeper & Accounts Assistant

Reed Accountancy are seeking a Senior Bookkeeper & Accounts Assistant with a hands-on approach and a minimum of five years' experience in a UK-based accountancy practice. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including bookkeeping, VAT, management accounts, and year-end accounting assignments for a variety of clients. This position is ideal for a candidate who is proactive, computer literate, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks using QuickBooks, Xero, and Sage Line 50, as well as other client software packages on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Conduct bank, cash, payroll, sales & purchase ledger input & reconciliations.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns and possess a good understanding of VAT principles and workings.
  • Prepare periodic management accounts, including monthly trial balances, cash flow statements, and other specific client reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements to trial balance stage, including computing accruals, prepayments, depreciation, etc.
  • Manage multiple clients' affairs, adhering to client and statutory deadlines.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements for both companies and unincorporated businesses.
  • Work under own initiative and unsupervised, both in-office and at client premises.
  • Liaise with clients regularly to obtain books and records and resolve any queries or discrepancies.
  • Provide support to other team members and departments within the firm.
  • Undertake other ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a UK-based accountancy practice.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (particularly MS Excel & MS Outlook) and bookkeeping software.
  • Proactive approach to work and the ability to manage and control own workload.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with staff and clients.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and maintain discretion.
