Our network of stores generates vital income to fund our life-changing services, and we re looking for a motivated and experienced Retail Operations Manager to lead a group of stores, drive performance, and ensure each location maximizes its potential.
The Role
As a Retail Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading, developing, and supporting Store Managers, Senior Store Managers, and other team members across a designated geographical area. Your focus will be on achieving and exceeding income targets, driving operational efficiency, and ensuring our stores deliver an exceptional customer and community experience.
This is a field-based role, requiring regular travel across your area to support and develop your team, ensuring each store thrives both commercially and as a hub for community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Income & Profitability: Analyse store performance, identify growth opportunities, and implement strategies to increase sales and control costs.
- Lead & Develop Teams: Recruit, train, and mentor high-performing teams, ensuring they are motivated, skilled, and aligned with YMCA s values and objectives.
- Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with local communities, businesses, and charities to enhance donations, volunteering, and brand awareness.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee day-to-day retail operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and health & safety standards.
- Stock Management & Logistics: Ensure efficient stock processing and logistics operations, working with internal teams to maximize donations and sales.
- Customer Experience: Continuously improve store standards and service levels, ensuring a welcoming and engaging shopping environment.
- Brand & Safeguarding: Promote YMCA s mission and values across all stores, while ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
What We re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Retail Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a multi-site retail management role, ideally within charity or high-street retail.
- Strong Commercial Acumen: Ability to analyse financial reports, drive sales growth, and manage budgets effectively.
- People Management Skills: Experience in recruiting, developing, and leading diverse teams.
- Community Focus: Passion for building relationships and engaging with local communities to support YMCA s mission.
- Operational Expertise: Knowledge of stock management, logistics, compliance, and security within a retail environment.
- Problem-Solving Ability: A proactive and strategic thinker, able to identify challenges and implement solutions effectively.
- Flexibility & Mobility: Willingness to travel regularly within the designated area.
