Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Vehicle Recovery / Workshop Assistants to join our Transport Services Team. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will be working at the roadside and in the workshop. Salary - £26,106 - £28,653 This/These post(s) attract allowances - Shift Allowance
Shift percentage - 12.50%
Hours per week - 37

You will carry out vehicle recoveries, tyre replacements, maintenance and support the workshop team to limit vehicle downtime. You will use your knowledge of vehicle maintenance and excellent customer service skills to help keep police officers and staff on the road and continue the vital work they do.

We strive ourselves to achieve very high standards and a first-time fix to ensure that vehicles are safe and kept on the road for the maximum time possible.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Recover and deliver or repair Police vehicles using specialised equipment.
  • Assist with tyre replacement and the disassembly of vehicles for recycling or disposal.
  • Maintain vehicles including tyre replacements and undertake routine vehicle or equipment checks.
  • Update other workshops and customers regarding vehicles for service/repair.
  • Make initial assessments of reported vehicle defects and carry out repairs as agreed with workshop team.
  • Ensure customer requirements are delivered efficiently, with a positive outcome.

Skills, experience and qualifications:

  • You must hold a C+E licence or be willing to work towards it and full training will be provided.
  • You must hold a full current driving licence and be prepared to become a force authorised driver.
  • You will need to have good up-to-date knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance including changing and fitting tyres.
  • Good IT skills and experience of vehicle parts systems.

Additional information:

The working hours will be split across a two week shift pattern:

  • Week 1 Monday to Thursday working 07.00-15.00 and Friday 07.00-14.30
  • Week 2 Monday to Thursday working 11.00-19.00 and Friday 11.30-19.00

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year checkable history in the UK ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
