The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Programmatic Excellence Lead to join our team in the CEO's Office.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The role reports to the Associate Director (AD), Strategy . You will be enhancing programme and project management quality and capability at Wellcome while supporting the delivery of strategic initiatives across the organisation.

The CEO Office is a central nexus for ensuring the organisation's resources, processes, and activities are aligned to deliver Wellcome's mission and strategy. It has a crucial role in developing Wellcome's strategy, related programmes and initiatives, and monitoring organisational impact.

What will I be doing?

You will be responsible for developing a programme management centre of excellence for consistent, high-quality delivery, implementing project management tools, providing professional development for staff, fostering a culture of learning and inclusivity, adhering to Wellcome's governance and values, and adapting roles to support Wellcome's mission.

As a Programmatic Excellence Lead, you will :

  • Develop and maintain a programme management centre of excellence, to ensure consistent, efficient, and high-quality delivery across Strategic Programmes and specific Cross-Wellcome initiatives.

  • Develop and support roll out of tools for programme and project management across Wellcome.

  • Provide professional development training and opportunities for programme management staff to build programmatic and MEL capacity.

  • Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement to ensure adaptation and agility within the team.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

We are looking for a motivated individual with strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, possessing significant knowledge of programme management best practices, capable of managing multiple projects across various stakeholders with a clear link to Wellcome's mission.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Knowledge and significant experience of programme and project management best practice standards, and how to tailor them to different environments with a clear the ability to learn about Wellcome's mission of key strategic priorities

  • Experience of delivering key projects/pieces of work to a high standard within tight deadlines as well as ability to work on multiple pieces of work across stakeholder groups.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.

  • Experience in developing and implementing capacity-building initiatives to enhance organisational skills and capabilities

  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, as well as strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving

  • The ability to use innovative approaches and experimentation with new tools and technologies to enhance impact.
