Job Description
The Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University is offering the following position (starting at the earliest opportunity): Professorship (Open Rank W2 or W3) Experimental Astroparticle Physics Our profile TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer. The Department of Physics combines excellent research in the focus areas of particle physics, condensed matter physics, atomic / molecular and optical physics and medical physics with a modern and future-oriented teaching concept. It maintains national and international networks in both research and teaching and is successful in attracting third-party funding. Profile of the professorship The research area of this professorship will be experimental astroparticle physics with a focus on experiments on neutrino astronomy and / or particle physics of air showers. Active participation in the analysis of experimental data and the development of scientific instruments constitute the research field of the professorship. The successful candidate is expected to participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University, for example in the "Ruhr Astroparticle and Plasma Physics Center" of the University Alliance Ruhr. Special focus of the professorship lies on strengthening the existing collaboration with Ruhr University Bochum in CRC 1491: Cosmic Interacting Matter. A high suitability to the research area particle physics of the department is required. Synergies with institutes and structures of TU Dortmund University and the UA Ruhr are desirable. You participate appropriately in the teaching activities of the department. Your Qualifications You hold a doctorate in physics obtained with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You are already conducting research in the professorship's profile area, as evidenced in particular by international publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals, especially in the last years. The willingness and potential for the acquisition of third-party funding as well as the potential for teaching excellence is required. Ideally, you already have demonstrated experience and success in acquiring third-party funding, as well as international visibility and international research contacts. You are expected to have contributed to the analysis of experimental data or the development of scientific instruments in the research field of the professorship. In the case of the W3 professorship, the successful candidate fulfils the following additional criteria: Contributions to both data analysis and development of scientific instruments, a track record in competitive third-party funding acquisition, continuous international publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and a high international visibility. Additionally, the integration in international research networks as well as experiences in teaching and supervision of students are expected. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile.
