Job Description

Applicants are expected to have demonstrated outstanding achievements in research and teaching in the field of Sports and Exercise Medicine that are internationally recognised. The Faculty of Sport Science aims to establish a research focus in Muscle and Metabolic Health and Performance. The Professorship of Sports and Exercise Medicine will make a significant contribution to this focus with research in Muscle and Metabolic Health. Contributions are expected in at least two of the following areas: Basic research on skeletal muscle physiology and pathophysiology Basic research on muscular adaptations of skeletal muscles to training in healthy and diseased people Research into muscular overload syndromes and muscle injuries Sports medicine diagnostics of physical performance in healthy and diseased people In teaching, the subject area of Sports and Exercise Medicine is to be represented and further developed in its entire breadth in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Sports Science. Courses and examinations must be held in German and English. Cooperation with the other research areas of the Faculty of Sport Science as well as related institutions of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (e.g., Medicine, Biology or Neuroscience) and other faculties is expected, as well as cooperation within the University Alliance Ruhr. The implementation of sports medical examinations is desired. Requirements Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum's mission statement. We expect furthermore: Strong commitment in teaching Readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work/ readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research A university degree, an above-average doctorate, high-quality scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals and international research experience in Sports and Exercise Medicine are required. A license to practice medicine (approbation) with the additional qualification of sports medicine or proof of having worked in sports medicine is desirable. The willingness and proven ability to acquire (for W3 significant) competitive, externally funded research projects (e.g., national funding agencies, EU) is expected.
