Job Description
What's involved with this role: Interim Principal Building Control Surveyor - Property Services Job Ref: Stoke Key Requirements:
- Relevant technical qualifications such as a degree building surveying or a combination of qualifications and experience that demonstrates an expert knowledge in the service areas functions and responsibilities.
- Expert Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, and its application in relation to the functions of the service area.
- Demonstrable experience of working with elected members in a constructive and politically sensitive manner, underpinned by a good knowledge of current local government issues.
- Experience in implementing effective service delivery, including the use of relevant technology, managing budgets and other resources, working in partnership with other organisations and the successful procurement and delivery of projects.
- Experience of working unsupervised on Safety at Sports Ground and Dangerous Structures.
- Excellent communication and presentational skills, both written and oral. Including the preparation of briefing notes.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
- Support the team manager in having operational management responsibility for staff covering the Stoke -on -Trent City Council area, subject to the Strategic manager's guidance for statutory building regulation and associated advisory services for the city council and partner authorities including the exercise of delegated powers.
- Deputise for the team manager as and when required.
- Support the Team Manager in ensuring that the local authority fulfils its legal regulatory function and national minimum performance standards and the authority's own objectives in relation to the service area.
- Support the Strategic Manager and Team Manager in developing plans, policies and procedures to deliver appropriate services to support the directorate's objectives.
- Promote and develop a high-quality approach to how we deliver services.
- Support in the effective overall running of the directorate as a member of the senior leadership team within the directorate and by undertaking any other duties as required by the Strategic Manager.
- Support the Team Manager in being responsible for service delivery and developments within the specified services.
- Work closely with the Team Manager team to agree priorities of development and change.
- Administer and service partnership boards of officers and elected members in connection with business planning process.
- Support the team manager to lead and manage an effective, high performance and customer focused team and to work with customers and service users to plan and deliver services.
- Promote and deliver transformational change in order to continuously improve services.
- Support the Team Manager to be responsible for the quality of services provided by the team.
