The PositionFor our Neuroscience Research we are seeking an experienced electrophysiologist to set up and validate electrophysiological recordings from rodent brain slices including neurotransmitter uncaging. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise to drug discovery with a focus on psychiatric disorders.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will be responsible to independently design and execute electrophysiological recording from brain slices
  • Furthermore, you will be responsible for enabling and applying state-of-the-art technologies for patch-clamp electrophysiology to measure functional connectivity and synaptic properties of neuronal circuits including pharmacological and neurotransmitter uncaging manipulations
  • With your work, you will support the understanding of novel therapeutic concepts for psychiatric disorders
  • You will present your research activities at internal and external meetings and in peer-reviewed journals
  • Moreover, you will be working in a stimulating environment in an interdisciplinary team of electrophysiologists, neuropharmacologists, cellular and molecular biologists and behavioural scientists
Requirements
  • PhD degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology or related fields
  • Extensive experience with electrophysiology in brain slices and methods for analysis of neural circuits; experience with optical uncaging of neurotransmitters would be an advantage
  • You have strong knowledge of neurophysiology and understanding of brain circuitry; a background in psychiatric disorders or neuropharmacology is preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in scientific journals and presentations at international conferences
  • High-motivated, self-driven, pragmatic, goal-oriented scientist with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, knowledge of German is desirable, but not essential
