Policy Advisor

London

£37,575 per annum

18 month fixed term contract, full-time, 35 hours per week

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) champions the power of planning in creating prosperous places and vibrant communities. We represent over 27,000 members worldwide, supporting them throughout their careers. We shape planning policy, raise professional standards and are the only body in the UK to confer Chartered status to planners, the highest professional qualification.

The current Government has placed planning at the heart of its growth agenda and ambitions for the country. This is an opportunity to join a successful team of policy and public affairs professionals at a critical moment for the planning profession as we systematically address the climate, nature and housing emergencies whilst kick-starting the economy. This role will support the Institute's policy development programme throughout the next 18 months, responding to the fast-paced and wide-ranging planning reform agenda.

The RTPI works closely with the UK Government, influencing policy, legislation and priorities for the built environment. This role will work closely with the Director of External Affairs and the Head of Policy and Public Affairs to ensure the RTPI has a robust and innovative policy development programme.

We are looking for an ambitious policy professional with a desire to help shape the role and raise the profile of the Institute among decision-makers and policy-influencers. You will have a good working knowledge of planning policy and the built environment and experience analysing public policy issues.

RTPI has a positive, supportive and inclusive work environment that actively operates a policy of helping its employees at all levels to achieve professional growth. We seek to foster a collaborative and respectful work environment that promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Closing date: Sunday 27th April 2025.

Interview date: Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th May 2025.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter that refers to the criteria in the person specification.
