Job Description
As a Senior Manager within the Environmental Services team, this role oversees a workforce of 70+ staff, including 6 direct reports, across waste operations, street scene and cleansing, transfer stations, and household waste recycling centres (HWRC).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee highperforming environmental services, including waste collection, disposal, street scene and cleansing, the transfer station, HWRC, special projects, and waste permits.
- Lead and manage internal staff and external subcontractors, ensuring adherence to budgets, risk management, and performance standards.
- Develop and implement strategic and operational improvements, contributing expertise on legislation, frameworks, and procedures relevant to environmental services.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing advice to senior leaders, elected officials, stakeholders, and the public.
- Drive project and program delivery, offering professional insights and leadership.
- Set and monitor meaningful performance targets, supporting continuous improvement across the service
Main Accountabilities:
- Maintain and ensure compliance with the Council's Waste Permit and Technical Competency Certificate requirements.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of an updated Waste Strategy and action plan to drive improvements.
- Monitor and manage operational health and safety, ensuring up-to-date documentation, daily inspections, and prompt reporting of incidents or risks.
- Lead investigations of incidents involving staff, vehicles, or equipment, including managing insurance claims where applicable.
- Motivate and manage team members through appraisals, training, recruitment, disciplinary actions, and absence management.
