Generating annual revenues of £60m, and highly profitable, the business employs c400 people across 3 sites. Its head office and manufacturing activity are based in Wednesbury, which is a non-unionised, modern and well-invested plant, with a wide range and large number of advanced machine tools.
RoleReporting to the Managing Director, the role of Operations Director is part of the senior leadership team of the business. You will be responsible for developing and driving manufacturing best practice, embedding quality, and disciplined process, through effective performance management, coaching, training and leadership. The position will lead production, warehousing and distribution logistics, maintenance and production planning.
Using your experience of having worked in a modern and effective manufacturing business, with your knowledge of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing, you will apply your experience through a supportive and positive leadership style to drive change and modernisation to upgrade the manufacturing operations.
A key aspect of your role will be developing an effective production planning capability, through the development of an expert production planning team and oversight of its process and strategy.
You will provide hands-on leadership and guidance, being visible on the shopfloor of this fast-paced and customer-led business, with ever changing product volumes and routings.
PersonThis is a role for an individual with a track record of success in manufacturing leadership, within a relevant precision engineering manufacturing environment. You will have experience of developing the operational capabilities of a manufacturing business, and possess an understanding of best practice in production planning.
Crucially, you will have machining knowledge and will be familiar with multiple machine tool environments, with a deep commitment to, and aptitude for, health & safety best practice. You will also be adept at forging strong relationships with your peers across the leadership team - including quality, sales, engineering, and finance.
Used to a fast-paced culture and a demanding customer base - operating in highly regulated markets, such as oil & gas, nuclear, aerospace or power generation, that require product traceability - you will be familiar with the drum beat of a precision manufacturer with complex planning, multi-stage production, varying volumes and sub-contracting partners - producing a high number of SKU's, typically in small batches.
You will be comfortable in a hands-on role and being visible on the shopfloor, with strong communication skills. A true 'people person', you will understand how to drive organisational change - with experience of building teams and developing people to grow into roles across a manufacturing organisation.
