Job Description
Nursery teacher needed ASAP in Shrewsbury, covering maternity leave, potentially until February 2026.

Your new school

Your new role
You will teach a nursery class of 27 children, 2 of whom are older than nursery age, but working at nursery age ability. Covering a maternity leave from February half-term for at least the remainder of the 2025 calendar year (maybe 1 year until February 2026), you will undertake the full role of class teacher, including planning (you will receive PPA time) and attending weekly staff meetings (Wednesdays). You will be a passionate and dedicated Early Years Teacher, and will work alongside a Level 3 qualified TA and a Level 2 qualified TA within the nursery, as well as the Reception class teacher who you will share an outside area and PPA time with. The nursery has the opportunity to be a shared space with the reception room, allowing collaborative work in the early years.

  • Plan and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons and activities for children aged 3.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Assess and monitor child progress, providing regular feedback to parents and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective teaching strategies.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children, recognising and addressing any barriers to learning.
  • Support and encourage the development of children through modelling the use of cutlery at the table.
  • Engage with the wider community to support the holistic development of the school's children.

  • What you'll need to succeed The ideal nursery teacher for this maternity leave cover, will have a strong commitment to fostering a love of learning in children and the ability to create a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment. You will play a crucial role in the early development of the school's children, helping to lay the foundation for their future success.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young children, preferably in an area of high deprivation.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and best practices in early years education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
