Job Description

About the Role

You'll be working in a small IT team, keeping the database infrastructure running smoothly and making sure our clients data stays secure, consistent and answering any queries.

Since this is a small team, you'll be exposed to lots of processes and technologies, making it an ideal learning opportunity regardless of age or experience!

This role will predominately be SQL Server, however the chance to explore other database technologies will be there (PostgreSQL being one) and upskilling actively encouraged.

Responsibilities:

Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server instances.
Perform backups and restores to ensure data integrity.
Set up and support High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) environments (eg Always On Availability Groups, failover clusters, log shipping, replication).
Investigate and optimize database performance.
Collaborate with senior DBAs and clients technical teams.
Troubleshoot issues related to Servers and databases.
Participate in an on-call rota
Assist in designing database systems and data structures.

Experience:

Understanding of Windows and Office applications
Experience with SQL Server and SQL Agent Jobs
Understanding of and experience with HA/DR/Backups/Restores/Log Shipping/AG
Knowledge of T-SQL Scripting for custom queries and stored procedures.
Problem investigation & resolution
ETL experience or understanding of the process
Understanding of database security best practices (user roles, permissions, encryption).

Nice-to-Have:

Exposure to monitoring tools (eg SQL Profiler, Extended Events, System Events).
Basic understanding of PowerShell or other Scripting languages for automation.
Familiarity with database version control (Git/Redgate).
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure stack (eg ADF, Logic Apps, Data Lake, Data Bricks, Power Query).
Understanding of PostgreSQL or another database technology.
