The in-house operation

The IT department is responsible for and designs the entire IT of the City of Munich. We ensure that IT provision meets the city's current and future needs. We drive the digitalization of the city of Munich and play a pioneering role. Our work and services make the city of Munich a digital metropolis that sets standards that its employees are proud of.

As part of the IT department, we ensure a modern IT and telecommunications infrastructure, implement professional IT solutions and secure the IT operations of the City of Munich with over 1,200 employees in our own company

What you can expect

You will work on lifecycle projects for enterprise VPN and remote maintenance systems and support the specialist departments in testing as part of client development and configuration of remote maintenance access. You will be involved in the planning and development of new solutions and their integration into the existing IT landscape. In cooperation with the city's SIEM team, you will ensure security. In particular, this requires prompt adjustments to the central VPN gateways in the event of threats. You will carry out error analysis in the event of access problems and ensure service quality and availability through maintenance and optimization of the systems and rolling 24/7 on-call duty (scope: 7 days every 6 to 7 weeks). You will work closely with other network teams (e.g. in the areas of firewall, web application firewall, load balancer).

Due to the special nature of the role, flexibility in working hours is required (to a small extent: weekend work, shift work or on-call duty).

You have

• a successfully completed university degree in the field of computer science, administrative informatics or business informatics or
• a successfully completed university degree or equivalent skills and experience, in each case with many years (at least three years) of professional experience in the IT sector or
• a successfully completed qualification examination for the third qualification level or a successfully completed professional examination II or the successfully completed municipal qualification program IT-Q or you are a tariff employee and were already in the third qualification level before 27.01.2010, in each case with many years (at least three years) of professional experience in the IT sector

In particular, you will have

• Specialist knowledge of IP technologies such as TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, VLAN, routing, understanding of basic network protocols such as DNS, http/s, ssh, DHCP, RDP, SNMP, knowledge of network analysis and tools (e.g. Wireshark), knowledge of Windows & Linux servers, basic understanding of certificates and several years of experience with VPN & firewall technologies (preferably Cisco)
• Result and goal orientation, in particular technical problem-solving skills and analytical thinking skills
• Ability to cooperate and deal with conflict

The following are an advantage

• Knowledge of automation with Ansible
• Experience in version management with Git
