Job Description

The role

Uppingham School is looking for a dynamic Housemaster/Housemistress (HsM) to help shape the quality of our boarding experience.

Based in the Lodge boarding house, you will help create a warm, supportive and inclusive home environment for our Sixth Form girls, ensuring that each boarder is given a sense of community, inclusion, safety and security.

One of the key skills of a Sixth Form boarding HsM is the ability to build strong relationships quickly with the girls, and to recognise and act upon the challenges faced by pupils entering a school in the Sixth Form. You will be a central figure in the life of each boarder, acting as a visible role-model for our pupils, ensuring the very highest standards of personal behaviour are exemplified by you and your team. You will engage with pupils during mealtimes, at the evening house call over, and informally by simply being in the same building.

The HsM lives in the private side of the house, which provides family sized accommodation. Assistance with reasonable removal expenses is provided.

About you

You will be a strong, personable and emotionally intelligent individual, with well-developed pastoral instincts. You will possess excellent communication and classroom management skills, including the ability to build a strong rapport with pupils. Prior pastoral experience of boarding and boarding house management (for example as a Deputy/Assistant HsM) is essential. A recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE is desirable, along with a track record of excellent teaching experience and appropriate training.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pastoral leader to shape our boarding experience and provide outstanding care, guidance, and leadership to our students.
