Job Description

The Epilepsy Society is the UK's leading charity dedicated to transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world-class research, advocacy, and care. With a rich history spanning 130 years, it is committed to creating a world where epilepsy is irrelevant, and those affected can lead the lives they want. As part of its ambitious strategy, the charity is looking to grow its fundraising capacity, in order to secure support for the innovative, cutting-edge research being undertaken at the Epilepsy Society through key academic posts, active research programmes, and infrastructure.

The Epilepsy Society is seeking an exceptional Head of Research Funding to lead its fundraising efforts primarily in securing income from government sources, academic grant providers, and the pharmaceutical industry. The appointee will also manage a team responsible for generating income from trusts and foundations, companies, and high-net-worth individuals. This is a key role within the Fundraising & Marketing team. As Head of Research Funding, the post-holder will work closely with leading clinicians, researchers, and academic partners from UCL and UCLH, ensuring that research has the greatest possible impact.

Candidates will likely have an advanced degree, ideally a PhD, and will demonstrate experience in grant writing, preferably in a scientific, research, and/or higher education environment. They will bring strong research, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear and compelling proposals. Knowledge of funding bodies, grant application processes, and research funding trends would be very helpful. It would be advantageous if the final candidate had knowledge of - or an interest in - epilepsy/neurosciences/general medical sciences, and were confident in promoting the work of the Epilepsy Society to funders.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside world-renowned scientists and researchers to help raise the income to drive cutting-edge advancements in epilepsy research and treatment.
