Job Description

External funding from individual giving sources plays a vital role in advancing IWM's mission, reach and impact. These funds support our public engagement programs, special projects and cover the costs of preserving and protecting our vast and unique collection of 33.6m items.

In this Head of Individual Giving role, the successful candidate will report into the Director of Development and have experience of securing six and seven figure-philanthropic gifts through strong relationship management skills and excellent communication abilities. They would also be responsible for the management and growth of the IWM Legacy and Bequest programmes, and line manage two Development Officers.

You will be expected to:

  • Work independently as well as across different teams to contribute to and deliver the priorities of IWM - using their proven experience, knowledge, skills, talent and potential to the best of your ability.
  • Focus on delivering excellent customer service and ensure value for money while being professional, courteous and demonstrating the behaviours and attributes expected of all IWM employees.
  • Adhere to all corporate standards, and use corporate systems as directed to ensure consistency of service, brand and operational standards.

In addition, your duties will include:

  • Work with the Director of Development on developing and implementing funding strategies for all capital campaigns and programs that require external funding from individuals through philanthropic giving.
  • Work towards the overall Corporate Plan target of by 2027 raising £1.5m in unrestricted funding based on agreed SMART objectives.
  • Increase the resource of unrestricted giving through the development and growth of the IWM Patron Program and Chairman's Circle Annual Giving Initiatives.
  • Manage a portfolio of philanthropic supporters to IWM towards cultivating and increasing their support.
  • Manage and develop the IWM Legacy Program including growing the membership of the 1917 Living Legacy Society.
  • Line Manage the Development Officer, Prospect Researcher and Development Officer, Operations.
  • Report regularly on progress and results to the Director of Development and prepare briefings and updates for meetings.
  • Be a positive and pro-active member of the Development Team, by participating in team plans and giving/receiving support
  • Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, as requested by the Director of Development.
