Job Description

We are looking for a visionary and experienced Head of Culture and Tourism. This role will take forward our ambitious plans for becoming a high-profile visitor destination with a dynamic year-round appeal and a reputation for great value and high-quality experiences. We want a vibrant cultural offer to be a mechanism to inspire communities to make lasting change, improve quality of life, raise aspiration and drive place making.

Redcar & Cleveland provides a stunning visual backdrop to Teesside, providing abundant nature and breathtaking scenery for our communities and visitors. Heritage woodlands, the northern entrance to the North York Moors National Park and beautiful coastline sit alongside popular coastal resorts and the ancient market town of Guisborough providing a multitude of attractive leisure opportunities. Alongside this, there is vast regeneration taking place with exciting capital developments for the successful person to help drive forward, including a new culture and leisure anchor attraction in Redcar itself.

You will be responsible for driving ongoing developments in our cultural and tourism offer and for leading a range of high-quality services including cultural development programmes, events and festivals, sport and physical activity development, libraries, Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds and visitor attractions including the Saltburn Cliff Tramway.

You will be an established, proven leader, with a passion for culture and heritage and experience of setting and delivering against a strategic vision. This role is responsible for proactively brokering and managing a range of important multi-partner relationships on a local, regional and national level, so great relationship management skills and sectoral experience are essential.

If this sounds like you and you have the experience, breadth of knowledge and skills as well as the passion to lead and drive forward our ambitions, then we would love to hear from you.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.
