Job Description
Grade II Inspector - Energy Safety Location: Ireland Salary: €73,961 - €90,198 Type: Permanent Full-Time Closing Date: 10/04/2025 The Role - Grade II Inspector - Energy Safety Key accountabilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manages a team of direct reports, creating a positive working environment and supporting their professional and personal development.
  • Carries out inspections, market surveillance and investigations within relevant area and inputs these into Platform(s) in accordance with their Programme of Work.
  • Prepares and delivers reports and updates to the relevant manager on the performance of the team and highlights any corrective actions taken to address issues of concern.
  • Initiates and develops key policy initiatives for the relevant sector/policy or legislative area that they are assigned, assisting in the development of National or EU Policy initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively to share data/information, expertise, insights and advisory support ensuring strong alignment across the Authority as required.
  • Drafts policy and guidance documentation and engages with relevant colleagues from across the Authority for feedback whilst ensuring that the guidance documentation is developed with the end user in mind.
  • Reviews and prepares technical assessments and reports in line with legislative requirements.
  • Works with key national stakeholder groups within the relevant sector(s)/policy or legislative area.
  • Engages with national market surveillance stakeholders and custom authorities.
  • Represents the Authority at relevant EU fora.
  • Conducts relevant research on existing policy and thought leadership to understand leading practice on how this can apply in an Irish context.
  • Undertaking such other duties as maybe assigned from time to time.
Requirements Essential The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate:
  • Primary degree (NFQ level 8 or equivalent) in Engineering, Science or other appropriate discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the function and operation of process safety instrumentation and equipment.
  • Experience in a process industry, civil or mechanical engineering or gas pipelines/network environment.
  • Working knowledge of relevant gas standards, codes of practice and international best practice in the gas industry.
  • Experience of safety management systems, hazard analysis, risk assessment, mitigation and control in gas safety.
  • Possession of a full driving licence (Category B).
  • Demonstrate that they possess the required competencies for the role as set out in Appendix 1.
Desirable The following requirements are desirable:
  • A recognised qualification at Diploma level or higher in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Qualification in general management.
  • Experience in the management of staff.
  • Experience in inspection, investigation, policy, enforcement or prosecution functions.
  • Relevant experience in the gas industry.
  • Experience of pipeline surveillance, defect assessment, welding, non-destructive testing, hydro-testing, pipeline inspection.
  • Experience of equipment commissioning and qualification of equipment.
  • Experience of participating in technical working groups.
  • Experience of facilitating productive relationships with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
