Job Description
Eames Fine Art is an established, commercial art gallery based in SE1, specialising in original artworks by printmakers from all periods in history, from Rembrandt to Hodgkin; from Rego to Hepworth. We also work with a formidable and exciting group of contemporary printmaking artists. Eames Fine Art regularly exhibits at art fairs in addition to hosting our own exhibitions, talks, auctions, and special events at our Collectors' Studio on a weekly basis.

We are currently looking for a new Cataloguing and Archive Manager to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent position at Eames Fine Art. The successful candidate will be responsible for cataloguing and photographing all new artworks brought into the studio and for uploading our website and making information about the collection available to clients and team members. Specialising in original prints means that we manage a high volume of artworks - this will involve handling, cataloguing and managing large quantities of high value pieces.

Responsibilities will include:

Recording information about each new work - including size, condition and availability. Researching artworks including the provenance, history, relevance and context of each. Taking, editing and filing photographs for presentation. Uploading and updating our websites and database with information about new works and new collections and exhibitions. Managing the storage of artworks and updating porfolios, presentation sleeves, browsers and viewing boxes at the Eames Fine Art Studio and galleries. Refreshing inventories of artworks with artists - running stock checks, liaising with artists and studios - sometimes offsite at their studios - and arranging for artworks to be returned and our stocks to be replenished regularly. Supporting directors to research, locate and purchase new stock. Supporting sales team - sharing information about new works by verbal presentations and written updates. Preparing labels for artworks. Liaising with the team to manage framing specifications and pricing, work schedules and exhibition operation programmes. Working with directors, artists and the team on publications and special projects. Managing an assistant and regular interns to assist with this role.

We are a small team and although everyone has their dedicated role for which they are responsible, we share many of the additional responsibilities such as looking after the spaces and planning exhibitions together. Clients visit our premises regularly and everyone on site is expected to be able to speak with clients and assist them with looking at artworks and in helping them decide on their purchases. There will be times you are asked to work at the front desk in the galleries - covering the sales team. You will also be expected to work at our evening events at the gallery and collectors' studio so discussing art with clients should be something you are comfortable with.

We are looking for someone with experience in a similar role, someone with a passion and curiosity for fine art who has a keen eye for detail and meticulous record keeping. A healthy desire for everything to be neat, correct and well ordered - someone who can work quickly but with a thoroughness and a desire for each piece of work to be excellent. We need a team member - someone happy to work alongside the directors on projects; other team members about upcoming events; encouraging assistants and interns and with clients sharing your knowledge and passion for the artworks we sell.
