FE Student Pastoral Support and Engagement Officer

£22,071.09 - £22,289 Gross Per Annum

Hours: 37 hours x 52 weeks

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Blackburn

The College is looking to appoint a dynamic, flexible and pro-active individual, responsible for student pastoral support needs and providing effective interventions for students that disengage with their studies.

The focus of this role is to support positive student engagement (both young people and adults) and to identity and resolve barriers to positive attendance, retention and achievement.

As a key member of the Student Support and Experience Team, you will take responsibility for providing timely interventions and support teaching and support colleagues to effectively safeguarded students and determine strategies to address pastoral and engagement issues, including maximising external agency support and outreach services.

You will champion pastoral themes and provide an engaging prevention and early help offer as part of a centralised Pastoral Hub. You must demonstrate excellent use of initiative; have strong communication skills and the ability to work with individuals from a range of backgrounds.

You must have previous professional experience of working hard to engage individuals and have a strong understanding of the range of issues facing young people which may present barriers to educational achievement. You will also have significant experience of working with a range of disengaged young people and experience of motivating individuals to influence positive engagement and change in attitude/behaviour.

You will have a Level 2 Qualification or equivalent in numeracy and literacy. A Level 3 professional qualification in Educations, Child Care, Social Care, Youth Work or Health would be an advantage.
