The Role:
As an Energy Manager, you can make your own valuable contribution by seeking to secure the best deals for our residents, and putting them at the heart of every decision.
The issue of energy usage and billing has never been more topical than it is now. Our residents quite rightly expect and demand correct service charges and to receive value for money, and as such, our work is consistently high-profile.
As a member of our small yet dynamic team, you will therefore take responsibility for energy management across our housing stock. Working with energy providers, external agencies and our regeneration teams to ensure our residents are receiving a first-class service, you will deal with thousands of properties in which you will strive to provide low tariffs for residents, and deliver highly transparent and accurate calculations.
Seeing to it that we are complying with the relevant requirements and standards (including the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations and those set out by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, you will handle everything from communal electricity projects through to gas and electricity meter mapping. Whether overseeing the installation of smart metres and defining the billing process for any new housing developments, or overseeing the heating and hot water billing of all residents, you will ensure energy bills are accurate first time, every time, and that metering and billing contractors are upholding our high standards. Managing the renewal or re-procurement of these contracts, you will maintain oversight of their execution, always striving to secure a better deal for our residents.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information
About You:
We are committed to ensuring all bills are correctly paid, and that charges are being accurately applied to the right households and individuals, so this role would be well-suited to a detail-focused individual who has a passion for delivering great customer service.
There will be plenty of scope to further your knowledge, so you will excel in our team if you can balance the needs of multiple projects, and you will champion the resolution of complex problems such as fuel poverty. With the ability to work with a wide variety of teams within the organisation (such as our communication colleagues in promoting energy saving measures) you will bring a collaborative approach to every challenge.
From a practical viewpoint you will have a good understanding of heat networks, metering and billing. With the capacity to analyse performance data and use this when managing the performance of our contractors, you will be an inspirational leader who communicates well both verbally and in writing. With a background in working with residents and residents' groups and investigating complaints, you will have the capacity to identify and resolve problems quickly. Crucially, you will be able to understand how financial decisions will impact on our residents.
The Council is committed to achieving diverse shortlists to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. We especially encourage applications from a global majority background and, while the role is open to all applicants, we will utilise the positive action provisions of the Equality Act 2010 to appoint a candidate from a global majority background where there is a choice between two candidates of equal merit. If you are from a Global Majority background, you can self-declare this to the hiring manager as
