About Unique Club at George Shearing

We are a Wandsworth based youth project specialising in providing disability services for 13 - 25-year-olds with learning disabilities and complex needs. We want to create a safe, fun space for young people to develop their social skills, their friendships, and their life skills.

In order to do this well we need the right people to join our committed and experienced team of youth practitioners who support and enable our young people and who put them at the heart of our practice.

We want enthusiastic staff who are able to support and enable the young people to fulfil their full potential moving forward into adulthood.

About the role

You will be working with young people aged 13-25 with SEND at the Unique Youth After School Club and holiday scheme, based at the George Shearing Centre.You will be part of a team providing a safe, fun, active and young person-centred, group - working in a youth work team that supports our short breaks offer.

You will demonstrate a sensitivity and understanding of the young people's individual needs working in partnership with other members of staff to create a warm, caring and supportive environment.You will also be responsible for the young people's hygiene and self-care routines such as toileting and mealtimes as required.

This is a term time contract 1 x 12 hour, the hours are from 3pm until 7pm Monday to Wednesday (Flexible), this role will include escorting duties on our transport from the school (Paddock secondary) and transporting home on some evenings.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children's Act 2004, The London Child Protection Procedures and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people as this applies to the worker's role within the organisation.
  • Experience of working with children or young people preferably with SEND.
  • Ability to demonstrate a person-centred approach to working with young people.
  • Ability to demonstrate group work skills, including creative or sports activities.
