Director of Regeneration, Economy, and Housing Development

Salary: £134,730 to £148,823

Location: London

Hackney is one of London's most vibrant and diverse boroughs, celebrated for its rich cultural history, creative energy, and community spirit. It's a place where people from all walks of life come together, creating a dynamic environment of opportunity, innovation, and inclusivity. Hackney Council is at the heart of this, driving forward ambitious plans to ensure the borough continues to thrive for all its residents. We are now looking for an exceptional individual to join us as the Director of Regeneration, Economy, and Housing Development, who will help shape Hackney's future by leading on some of the most critical challenges and opportunities we face.

In this crucial position, you will take responsibility for some of the Council's most impactful areas, including Housing Development, Employment, Skills, Regeneration and Economic Development, as well as Culture, Libraries, and Heritage. You will be instrumental in delivering the Mayor's key priorities and ensuring Hackney's growth and development benefits all its residents. From overseeing the Council's ambitious in-house housing development programme to leading the regeneration of Woodberry Down, one of the UK's largest and most complex urban renewal projects, your work will directly affect the lives of thousands.

Hackney has a strong sense of community, and at the Council, we are committed to fostering an environment where that community can continue to grow. You will be responsible for driving inclusive economic growth by leveraging the Council's assets and establishing innovative partnerships across both the public and private sectors. In addition to overseeing key housing and regeneration projects, you will play a leading position in promoting Hackney's rich cultural and heritage offer, ensuring our libraries and cultural services continue to enrich the lives of residents.

To succeed in this position, you will need to be a visionary leader with experience working at a senior management level, ideally within a political or public sector environment. You will have a strong track record of delivering large-scale regeneration and housing programmes, managing significant budgets, and leading multi-disciplinary teams. Your ability to inspire and engage colleagues within the Council and the wider community will be critical to your success. Applying a 'one Council' approach, skill in building partnerships and working collaboratively with key stakeholders to deliver projects that make a real difference is essential.

Hackney is a place where diversity is celebrated, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone who lives and works here feels valued, included and that they belong. As Director, you will be at the forefront of driving that vision and culture forward, ensuring that the Council's services are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with our commitment to eradicating discrimination in all its forms.

If you're passionate about creating a better, more inclusive Hackney and have the leadership, vision, and experience to make a real impact, we want to hear from you. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of one of London's most exciting and diverse boroughs, working to ensure that Hackney continues to be a place where all residents can live, work, and thrive.
