The Principal of Gordonstoun is delighted to invite applications for the role of Director of Development. This is a rare opportunity to lead the development function of a world-renowned independent school, widely recognised for its distinctive moral purpose and commitment to service and philanthropy. As Gordonstoun heads towards its centenary in 2034, the Director of Development will join the School at a critical moment in its history and have a far-reaching impact on its fundraising ambitions and outcomes for years to come.
A Gordonstoun education is truly unique. With its rich history, distinctive ethos and beautiful 200-acre woodland campus, the School blends academic achievement with life-changing experiences beyond the classroom, equipping some 500 young people for success as international citizens in a rapidly changing world. Student experience at Gordonstoun is formative and exciting, with activities ranging from sail training around the Hebrides to wilderness expeditions in the nearby mountains, all underpinned by a strong sense of social purpose.
The Principal is now looking to appoint a Director of Development to embed a professional development function at Gordonstoun, strengthening the important role philanthropy already plays within the Gordonstoun community as one of its founding principles. This person will spearhead the School's fundraising activity and lay the foundations for continued long-term success in development, to provide life-changing bursaries that will widen access to Gordonstoun for pupils from all backgrounds. The Director of Development will sit on the Senior Leadership Team and work in close collaboration with the Director of the Gordonstoun Community.
The next Director of Development will bring a proven track record of raising money over a sustained period and be a proactive self-starter comfortable working with a range of constituents both in the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will need to be a natural relationship-builder capable of working effectively with a highly collaborative Senior Leadership Team to help shape and deliver a successful fundraising strategy. Applications are welcome from a variety of sectors but strong candidates are likely to be proven fundraising professionals with a demonstrable track record of delivering significant major gifts. A deep personal alignment with Gordonstoun's values and founding Hahnian principles is essential.
While a frequent presence at Gordonstoun would be expected throughout the year, the Principal will consider candidates seeking an alternative permanent base.
