Digital marketing and communications officer

Salary £30,000 per annum - subject to skills and experience

Hours of work Full time,37.5 hours a week over five days. Occasional weekend and evening work for events

Base Hybrid working for the foreseeable future with regular attendance to the office at least 2 days a week

Job purpose

The digital marketing and communications officer role is a new and exciting opportunity, central to the growth of our organisation s digital activity.

In this role, you will optimise our digital platforms, ensuring content is always up to date, engaging and accessible across all channels. Your efforts will be key in maintaining seamless and dynamic digital communications.

As part of our friendly, professional communications team, you ll collaborate with content creators, our graphic designer and other colleagues to deliver impactful campaigns that drive awareness and fundraising success. You ll work closely with the digital marketing manager to create effective email campaigns, while supporting the content marketing team to get inspiring content to the right audiences via the most effective platforms.

You ll track performance using tools like Google Analytics, monitoring key metrics to drive continuous improvement in our digital activities. The role also involves responding to our online community, fostering meaningful engagement with our incredible supporters, patients, staff and local communities.

The objectives of the post are:

Digital platforms and systems
  • Keep our website up to date. Publish and manage content, ensuring it s accurate, on-brand and SEO-friendly.
  • Use SharePoint to keep our staff and volunteers updated and manage our dedicated pages on the Royal Free London s intranet.
  • Take charge of our digital asset management system, uploading and organising content and ensuring consent is documented.
  • Run our regular meetings where we plan our upcoming digital and social media activity
  • Work closely with our external website maintenance and development supplier and our IT support to maintain and optimise our digital platforms.
  • Partner with our in-house graphic designer and content creators to deliver stunning and engaging materials.
Data, tracking, and reporting
  • Keep us on track by collating and analysing key performance metrics across our website, email, social media and digital marketing channels, presenting actionable insights and recommendations to help us continually improve.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to measure the impact of our team s performance and activity.

Content and campaign management
  • Be the voice of our online community - respond warmly and quickly to emails, comments and messages.
  • Team up with our content creators to develop campaigns that hit the mark, driving awareness and fundraising success.
  • Use our email service provider to create and distribute email campaigns - including our monthly e-newsletter, supporter communications and fundraising appeals - tracking results and identifying what we can to achieve better engagement.
  • Attend and help out at events, conferences and meetings, including those occasionally held in the evenings or on weekends.

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • CSE/GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent
  • A qualification in a relevant field and/or membership of a professional organisation such as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) or the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
Essential experience
  • Proven ability to write and edit great content tailored for digital platforms.
  • A track record of delivering engaging email and digital campaigns to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of GDPR and data protection principles and how they apply to communications and marketing activity
  • Hands-on experience with email service providers to create automated journeys and broadcast campaigns. We use DotDigital but familiarity with any major platform is acceptable.
  • Experience with CMS platforms for publishing website content and making backend updates. We use Craft but familiarity with any major CMS is acceptable
Desirable experience
  • Experience working on digital fundraising or income-generation campaigns.
  • Experience of running ads on social media platforms
  • A curious mind and interest in exploring how AI can elevate team performance and creativity.
Essential skills
  • A solid understanding of digital marketing techniques, from SEO and search ads to social media strategies.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools like Google Analytics and Data Studio, and a knack for turning data into actionable recommendations
  • Awareness of digital accessibility best practice in the UK public or charity sector.
  • Really well organised with a talent for juggling projects and meeting deadlines.
The team

The communications team is responsible for keeping our supporters and local residents informed about the difference we make to the patients and staff of the Royal Free London NHS Trust. We celebrate achievements and promote the charity and its successes to the world.

We manage our digital presence through a range of channels including our website, our social media platforms and email marketing. We also produce a range of off-line content including print publications, impact reports, and ambient marketing materials. We provide photography and audio-visual services.
