Council Members

The University of Nottingham is a pioneering university providing an exceptional research-led education and an outstanding student experience. Maintaining this global reputation, with influence and impact on an international knowledge economy, depends on the commitment of all our community. University Council, our governing body, has a key role to play in the stewardship of the University, helping it to fulfil its mission and ensure ongoing integration with our diverse networks of people locally and globally.

The University of Nottingham is now looking to appoint three exceptional Council Members, who will bring a breadth of experience at board level from the public, private or third sectors, alongside knowledge of complex governance. Based on an assessment of current and future skills needs, the University would benefit from knowledge and experience of the leadership of large organisational change programmes. These roles will allow postholders to contribute their external skills and insights to the effective stewardship and strategic direction of the University.

The University recognises the benefit of a diverse Council which represents our student body and the global community we serve. We would welcome applications from candidates from backgrounds which are currently underrepresented. We would also be interested to hear from applicants who are based in or have strong connections with public sector organisations, local authorities or businesses in Nottinghamshire or the wider East Midlands. Council members will provide advice, support and expertise to ensure that the University's activities and management are both effective and efficient, establishing constructive, supportive and appropriately challenging working relationships with senior staff across the institution.

A personal interest in and a commitment to higher education is critical as is a commitment to the values, aims and objectives of the University. Council meets four times per year for sessions that last a day and a half and although these positions are not remunerated reasonable expenses will be paid.
