Role: Climate Change Ambassador
Location: Chorley
Contract: Part time (21.75 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £30,559 - £32,654 (pro rata)
Closing Date: 9 March 2025
Are you passionate about the environment? Do you enjoy engaging and communicating with the public? We are looking for someone who can bring energy to the role and use their passion and creativity to spread awareness about climate change and biodiversity, promoting positive behavioural change within the community.
Within this role you will be working within schools, online, and with community groups to engage, educate and inspire about addressing the climate and ecological emergency across the borough.
What you ll be getting up to
Chorley Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and as part of this have made community engagement and education a priority within the Climate Change Programme. You will have a varied role on a day-to-day basis and responsibilities will include:
- Developing a programme of innovative and exciting ways to deliver education and engagement through a variety of channels
- Deliver face-to-face engagement activities to groups including schools, businesses, community groups and council officers about climate change & simple steps we can all take to make a difference.
- Represent the Council at local events
- Develop online materials for social media and websites
- Work with officers within the Council to inspire and promote climate and biodiversity activity within their own roles
- Work alongside the Climate Change Lead Officer in project delivery
Who we re looking for
- The successful candidate will have experience working within the community and presenting in front of groups of varied sizes
- Someone with qualifications or equivalent work-related experience in environmental and biodiversity studies and/or other relevant subjects
- Knowledge of local and national effects of climate change, sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives
- The ability to confidently work with a wide range of different stakeholders of different ages, backgrounds and base environmental understanding
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Other requirements
- This role may require some travel around our boroughs. It is desirable for the candidate to have a valid driving license or the equivalent mobility.
- Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check (applied and paid for by the Council).
