Job Description

Chief Finance Officer

  • Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time
  • Contract Length: Up to 6 months
  • Location: Maldon (Hybrid working: 1-2 days in office per week)
  • Day Rate: £600 per day

Our client are seeking an experienced Chief Finance Officer to provide strategic financial leadership for up to 6 months. This role offers a hybrid working model, with office attendance required based on business needs, including evening committee meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Council's Section 151 Officer, ensuring all financial operations comply with statutory regulations
  • Lead strategic financial planning and management to support Council objectives
  • Oversee Finance and Commercial teams, fostering high performance and accountability
  • Collaborate with elected Members and senior leadership to ensure seamless cross-Council operations
  • Manage recruitment and supervision of staff, ensuring effective service delivery
  • Ensure financial compliance, transparency, and sound governance through reports and presentations at Council meetings.
  • Contribute to performance improvement strategies, risk management, and cost-saving initiatives

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Member of an accounting body recognized in the Local Government Finance Act 1988
  • Leadership/management qualification (eg, CMI Level 5 or higher)
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic financial planning, compliance, and risk management within local government
  • Proven leadership skills in managing finance teams and complex service portfolios
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business process improvement expertise
