Job Description

Do you want to play a leading role in chairing a body whose work significantly impacts on all police officers in England and Wales?

The Police Advisory Board for England and Wales (PABEW) was established as a non-departmental public body under section 46 of the Police Act 1964, now section 63 of the Police Act 1996. Under the remit of the Board, sits the Police Pensions Scheme Advisory Board and the Discipline Sub-Committee. In addition to this, the Chair has responsibility of chairing the Police Consultative Forum (PCF), a voluntary forum for employer and staff representative bodies that sits outside the statutory functions of the PABEW.

We are looking for a Chair who is a strong and independent individual, able to lead the Board effectively, ensuring that those who represent police forces, police officers and other interested parties across policing can work together successfully on varied and important issues. The Chair will be expected to engage with the government's priority policy areas and mission when agenda building, enabling the board to provide perspectives from all levels of policing on relevant issues. The Chair must be confident at leading vital discussions, fulfilling statutory obligations including advising the Home Secretary on matters within its remit, concerning the Government's major policing reforms.

The Chair must ensure that the Board operates efficiently, transparently and in the public interest. We are looking for an individual with the ability to deliver at pace, maintain awareness of the wider political and policing landscape and grasp technical detail.
