Job Description

Cygnets Art School in Taunton are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and reliable new Assistant Teachers to help run our classes! Please read all the information below before applying, as this is a part-time, freelance position, and may not be suitable for everyone.

Cygnets is a fine art school franchise for children, based in the UK. We teach traditional drawing, painting and sculpture, combined with unique projects; experienced teachers, and professional quality materials. Classes are run for ages 5-13 after school and weekends during term time, as well as every half term and school holiday.

Responsibilities:

  • Help the teacher with setting up art supplies
  • Helping to set up the classroom
  • Showing students to their seats
  • Chatting to students to make them feel comfortable and happy
  • Making sure students are keeping up with the project
  • Following the directions of the Teacher wherever required
  • Helping students to finish and tidy work where necessary
  • Helping students to wash their hands
  • Taking students to the loo when need be
  • Making sure students are listening and paying attention to the teacher
  • Helping to tidying up the classroom
  • Help with marketing of the business when required such as flyering local schools and businesses

This role would suit a creative individual with a passion for teaching, who's looking for well-paid work in the artistic industry, but with the flexibility of minimal hours that can fit around other commitments.

Term Time Hours:

Starting April each session has a paid 15mins set up and pack down time either side of the slot. Arriving on time is mandatory to allow enough time for your session.

  • Wednesdays (arrive at 3.45pm) 4:00-5pm teaching (leave at 5:15pm) with a group aged 5-12yrs
  • Fridays launching later in the year (arrive at 3.45pm) 4:00-5:30pm teaching (leave at 5:30pm, with a group aged 9+
  • Saturdays (arrive at 9.45am) 10am-11am teaching (leave at 11:15am) with a group aged 5-12yrs

Then ongoing each term (10 weeks/term 3 terms/ year)

Holiday Hours:

Starting April Half Term 2025

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays (10:00am arrive for set up) 10:30-2pm (paid until 2.15pm for pack down)

Then ongoing each half term (3 x weeks per year); Easter Holiday (2 x weeks per year), and Summer holiday (5 x weeks per year).

You may be required to give additional hours for assisting at after school clubs. This is to be confirmed

Training Hours:

Teaching assistants don't require training but we will fund your basic DBS if you don't have one. Your main role is to ensure the smooth running of the sessions but assisting the teacher with preparing art materials, talking to children etc

Pay:

£15/ hr (please note this is paid for the length of the class and includes any preparation/ set up/ clear-up time.

Potential additional hours and income from private tuition/ classes

Necessary Requirements:

- Strong core artistic skills in a variety of mediums

- A passion for working with children

- Excellent reliability, time-keeping and organisation

- Basic DBS check ( We will reimburse the cost to you to complete one if you haven't already)

Ideal Additional Requirements

- Teaching experience

- A knowledge of the local area and connection to local schools

Exceptional creative, part time job with good earning potential
