Take an artistic journey with Taipei Medical University

Stretching from the turn of the nineteenth century right up to the present day, modern art encompasses a huge range of forms and styles. To understand art today, you need an awareness of its evolution throughout the period.

On this six-week course from Taipei Medical University, you’ll take a journey through the history of modern art. From Romanticism and Expressionism to postmodernism and performance art, you’ll survey the vast range of styles and movements that have helped forge art today.

Trace the evolution and impact of modern art

To put modern art in context and differentiate it from traditional art, the course will start by tracing the evolution of the form.

You’ll learn what movements preceded the arrival of modern art, and how it has evolved over time.

You’ll also explore the impact modern art has had on culture and society since the late nineteenth century.

Examine different forms and styles of modern art

Next, you’ll dig into the different forms and styles encompassed within modern art.

You’ll learn about key movements like Cubism and Surrealism, as well as influential artists including Piet Mondrian, Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama, and more.

Consider new directions in contemporary art

The final week of the course will focus on art in the 21st century and the present day.

You’ll consider postmodernism, performance art, and the influence of feminism, discussing where contemporary art might travel in future.

By the end of the six weeks, you’ll have a greater sensitivity to and a greater understanding of modern art.
