Division Summary
Our Thermo Scientific brand in the Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) offers customers in research, academic, industrial and applied markets a complete range of high-end analytical instruments as well as laboratory equipment, software and services. In the materials and structural analysis division we design, manufacture, and support the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Our worldwide team of 5,500 employees is dedicated to customers' pursuit accelerating innovation and driving productivity.
In the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) Services organization, we are redefining the way we design, develop and deliver services in order to increase value for our customers. This journey started with using data from our systems to initiate pro-active service at our customers, resulting in several commercial offerings around this pro-active service, also including other aspects like application support and workflow validation.
With the growing business prospects for these services comes the need to expand its organization and infrastructural foundations. We have now a position available for a Sr. Solution Architect - Digital Services
The Position:
As Sr. Solution Architect you will oversee the technical evolution of digital services, and implement global scaling concepts for the service platform. Both in the cloud as well as delivered on-premises, and integrated in Thermo Fisher Products.
You will be joining the Concepts and Solutions team. A team of 6 professionals at the forefront of the development cycle of the Service Innovation department.
Your responsibilities will include defining the architecture necessary to support digital services such as pro-active monitoring, customer insights and remote control. Services that enhance customer productivity and process efficiency.
In this role you will define the architecture roadmap to support Digital Transformation of Services, and aligning them with R&D and corporate IT. You lead the architecture board and make important design decisions for the services platform's technology.
Responsibilities:
- Establishing and propagating the architecture roadmap, anticipating to serve the future needs of (Digital) Services.
- Translate digital services business requirements into requirements and architectural design of the end-to-end digital services.
- Provide technical response and recommendations to Service Marketing requirements and Voice of Customer research.
- Validate design concepts against business requirements, feasibility, scalability and the long term vision.
- Acknowledging the security risk of the solutions, and apply the necessary measures.
- Delegate engineering tasks into Service Innovation development teams, including suppliers.
- Align Service architecture with corporate IT and product development in R&D.
- First point of contact for the Solution architect team. Chair architecture board of solution architects and software architects.
- Motivate business purpose and rationalize necessary investments to strengthen infrastructure to Service management
- Work with AWS, Databricks, VMware infrastructure, Terrafrom, Jenkins, Kubernetes, PostgresSQL, MS SQL server etc.
Job requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology/Computer Science.
- Consistent track record working as an Architect (could be in Data, Infrastructure, SW or Application).
- Good communication and influencing skills.
- In depth understanding of cloud concepts, web-based applications and microservices.
- Knowledge of (or preferred experience in) information security concepts.
- Knowledge of database technologies and concepts especially focused towards large data concepts and tools.
- Conceptual problem solver who can go into details where needed - can also make translation of concept to implementation.
- Strong focus on quality, adaptability and maintainability of tooling and processes.
- Work experience in agile/SAFe development teams and DevOps or equivalent experience.
- Have experience in high tech manufacturing and/or Service business.
- Knowledge of English in written and spoken form and experienced in working in international teams.
The position is for someone with experience in R&D, Business, or IT who wants to expand their skills in services. They will have the opportunity to work with data, IoT, AI, and Information security and help the business grow in the digital services sector.
