About the role:

The British Museum is looking for a Fire Safety Specialist to work with the Senior Fire Safety Manager to provide technical fire safety advice and drive operational change and continuous improvement in fire safety management across the organisation. This post ensures that there is a strong and pragmatic fire safety culture across the Museum's diverse operations and will support significant capital development over the coming years.

This is an excellent opportunity for a fire safety expert who thrives on working in the cultural sector.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Providing specialist fire safety technical advice and being the operational lead for fire safety arrangements at The British Museum
  • Driving improvements in relation to legal and code of practice compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire) Order and ensuring that best practice is adopted
  • Ensuring that operational arrangements to protect staff, public, collections and property from fire (and related flood) are in place
  • Making decisions about fire safety related issues as part of programmed, ad hoc and capital project works. These are likely to affect multiple stakeholders and functions across the Museum.
  • Enhancing and promoting a positive staff culture that affects thinking and behaviours about fire safety across the whole museum.

About you:

An experienced fire safety specialist, with consolidated experience in a similar role, ideally in a heritage environment, you should have fire safety-related qualifications, and a sound knowledge of Building Regulations and BS 9999. Membership of the IFE or professional standards bodies and/or a technical background in either Mechanical, Electrical, Building Fabric Maintenance, or Fire Engineering are desired.

You should be a strong decision-maker and influencer, with outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
