About the Role
Nature Portfolio is currently looking for a dedicated Editorial Assistant to join our team! As an Editorial Assistant, you will play a crucial role in managing the manuscript processing workflow from commissioning to acceptance. Your responsibilities will include providing assistance to authors, editors and reviewers by completing tasks such as obtaining relevant third-party rights permissions, chasing authors for submissions, and ensuring the smooth flow of manuscripts through article pipelines in an efficient manner. You will work closely with in-house editors to ensure timely processing of content and maintain high standards of accuracy. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced publishing environment.
This role can be based in our Kings Cross London offices on a hybrid working model and will offer opportunities for career development in editorial administration and operational management. This role does not involve writing or editing content. If selected, you will gain valuable insights into the scientific operational editorial and peer review process, providing a deeper understanding of how these processes function.

Role Responsibilities:
- Managing the flow of manuscripts from commissioning to acceptance through the manuscript tracking system (MTS)
- Providing MTS support for Authors, Reviewers and Editors - troubleshooting and assisting with system issues and escalating to the relevant teams if needed.
- Liaising with Authors, Editors, and Reviewers by responding to incoming queries via email and telephone - ensuring your manner is always polite, professional and helpful
- Obtaining relevant third-party permissions for display items according to article deadlines - managing process of contacting third party publishers and following up as required
- Maintaining accurate and correct information within internal databases - updating person records within the MTS and ensuring manuscript information is correct
- Acting as a key cornerstone in the journal team by assisting the in-house Editors and Authors and providing timely manuscript updates to Editors
- Assisting with other ad hoc tasks associated with the editorial workflow of manuscripts
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Microsoft Office and Google suite experience
- Database management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong prioritisation and organisation skills
- Ability to meet deadlines efficiently
Desirable
- Experience working in a fast-paced office environment is preferred
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Previous customer service experience
